Erica Hess, Classical Pilates Teacher and Studio Owner
Erica began her classical Pilates studies in 2005 with Krisna L. Hanks and Robert Surenbroek at East Bay Pilates in Emeryville, CA. After five years of private study and with the encouragement of her teachers, Erica embarked on her certification through Power Pilates.
Erica studied under the tutelage of Allison Gonzalez (a student of Romana Kryzanowska), whom she credits for helping further her knowledge and appreciation for the integrative and systematic approach that a truly classical program provides. Erica completed her certification while working full time at Peetʼs Coffee & Tea headquarters in marketing and community relations. Since being initially certified, Erica continues to work with her teachers at East Bay Pilates and has participated in workshops led by master teachers including Bob Liekens, Karen Frischmann, Frank Zito and Benjamin Degenhardt.
Having worked many years in the corporate sector, Erica understands the demands of full-time employment and how the mind-body benefits of Pilates can support both good health and productivity. As a new mother, Erica credits Pilates for a healthy pregnancy, a safe, post-natal recovery and now more than ever, increased stamina to keep up with her very active son.
Erica left her post at Peetʼs after seventeen years to dedicate herself to teaching Pilates full time and with a goal to open a pilates studio in her neighborhood. She welcomes the opportunity to work with students of all ages and fitness levels to develop a strong core, good posture, overall strength, stamina and, last but not least, an improved sense of well being.
Erica grew up in the East Bay, is a graduate of UC Berkeley and has been a resident of the Claremont-Elmwood neighborhood since 1998.
